Hello, I’m Heitor Santos , a Surgeon with the following qualifications:

Abdominal Hernia Specialist

Areas of activity

Inguinal Hernias

Inguinal hernias are more common among men, located in the groin region, and may be related to heredity, collagen diseases, malnutrition or after prostate surgery.

Femoral Hernias

Hernias are most common in women, located in the groin region, and require special attention from the surgeon, due to the higher rate of strangulation and emergency surgeries.

Umbilical and Epigastric Hernia

Hernias in the mid-abdominal region, in or above the umbilical scar. They are quite common, come in various sizes, and most often require the use of mesh for repair.

Incisional Hernias

Hernias related to scars from previous surgeries, which can be in any part of the abdomen and any size of defect. Meshes are always indicated for this type of hernia.

Lumbar and Flank Hernias

These are hernias caused by previous surgeries or trauma, where there is a partial or total rupture of the lateral muscle group. They are difficult to treat and are recommended only for specialist and experienced surgeons.

Abdominal Diastasis

Abdominal diastasis is the separation of the central muscles of the abdomen and can cause problems with the lower back, among other symptoms. It occurs for three main reasons: heredity, after childbirth or in obese patients.

Other Hernias

There are other rarer hernias that require surgical treatment, such as Spiegel, Petit, Grynfeld, Obturator and Morgagni.

Robotic Surgery

Robotic surgery has been in Brazil for 16 years, widely used and consolidated for hernia surgeries. Today, hernia surgery is the third most performed surgery using robotics, behind only robotic prostate and kidney surgeries.

Open (Conventional) Surgeries

Some extremely complex cases, such as giant hernias, require conventional surgery to reconstruct the entire abdominal wall.
